Moving kenyan innovations beyond the hype.

The buzzword in Kenyan tech circles is mobile apps. Many Kenyan
techies are innovating one new app after the other, but the question
is whether the apps are bringing any money or not. While there are
some successful apps such as Mfarm, many others are not as successful.
One definite issue is that Kenyan, or African techies, are not
creating apps to solve local problems. As any business person will
tell you, the true business is one that is built around solving a
particular problem which customers are willing to pay for. Could
Kenyan and African techies adopt this model and stop the copy pasting
of western market ideas? This is the only way they can succeed both
regionally, continentally, and globally, and hopefully, reap lots of
fortune in the process.
